You’re going back to work after a break?
When I started this article, I thought about Stay at Home Moms (or Dads) who wanted to go back to work outside the home. But there are many reasons why people take a break from formal work, and most of these tips would apply to other people as well.

But the stay-at-home parents receive better treatment. They are recognized as the pool of talent in many fields. So you can not let the difficult labor market and potential employers stop you. Winners just tend to be proactive and take the extra steps that make all the difference.
Your Cover Letter is important
Start with your cover letter. Be sure and make it clear how you can benefit, both with previous work experience and education, and the skills you develop as a parent. You may not even realize how much skill it takes to be a parent. But you have to manage the household, plan budgets, and stick to the plan. These are the skills that employers value. And employers form a first impression of a cover letter.
Emphasize your skills and experience
Did you ever volunteer work when you were working as an at-home parent? Volunteer jobs, especially in leadership positions, can impress employers too. If you organize a neighborhood bake sale, acted as a den leader for you scout pack his son, or taught religious school, be sure and check it.
You may also want to start again with a list of your important skills. This could be the skills you picked up in the last work, formal education, training classes, home management, volunteer work or website! For example, if you use the popular accounting software package for your home budget management, you probably want to file it. Some of these packages or similar ones, are used in the workplace too.
You can update your skills?
Do skills look a little outdated or sketchy for the type of job you want? Look at the current letter and review the typical requirements. You can consider getting some training. You can find training courses online, the local Community College, or the local branch of the state unemployment office. It is better to have the training and actual experience. But training and some exposure is better than no exposure at all.

Include a brief explanation of your time off of work. The employer is obliged to work gap, so you may as well show it immediately. If you took time off to be with young children or writing your novel, you can then tell the employer the right up front.
